ABOUT KIERA OKE FX
I work within the art of Makeup transformation, from subtle Character Makeup to hyper-realistic Trauma simulations. My speciality is within the field of Special Effects Makeup, an industry I have adored since childhood. The curiosity for the unknown and gothic tropes within old monster movies inspired my journey in becoming an SFX Makeup artist. I grew up watching Horror and played fantasy video games filled with interesting-looking creatures, and wondered how I too could create such imagery, and bring my imagination to life, and here I am years later, with the ability to do just that for a living.

My journey into the world of special effects and makeup artistry began with six years of dedicated study, culminating in a BA Honours degree and a Master’s degree focused on advanced practical techniques of SFX and Media Makeup. This extensive training included mentorship under renowned industry professional Neill Gorton, ensuring my skills are not just creative, but technically flawless, modernised and production-ready.
My extensive education and experience on-set has made me proficient across all makeup disciplines, including complex period looks, editorial, bold avant-garde creations, and comprehensive character hair and makeup design. I have advanced my skills in sculpture, mould making, casting and finishing, and I am currently learning a new avenue within digital sculpture and 3D printing, allowing me to offer more to potential employers.
I am a creator and fabricator, not just an applicator. My dedicated studio space allows me to design and manufacture my own prosthetics and props. I have a particular expertise in crafting hyper-realistic pieces, including detailed busts and unsettlingly accurate severed limbs, blending artistry with anatomy to achieve maximum impact. My technical abilities ensure I can deliver in any style or brief, making me a reliable partner for any production.

I have successfully led makeup and SFX departments on low-budget feature films, including Sweeney Todd Slice and Dice and Dracula: Rise of the Vampire. My experience as Head of Department means I understand the demands of a set, managing budgets, teams, and delivering complex looks under strict deadlines. Its allowed me to expand my skillset past the creative into production management, allowing me to be more organised, be able to schedule Makeup applications efficiently, and communicate effectively with other departments, to collaborate and achieve the highest visual impact we can, problem-solving and working together to make our on-set execution as smooth as possible.

Beyond set work, I operate my own studio and maintain an online shop where I sell my custom-designed prosthetics directly to other artists, enthusiasts, and filmmakers. This entrepreneurial side fuels my commitment to continuous innovation and quality in every piece I create, and allows me to continue to fine-tune my craft in between productions.
